Our mission is to create a vibrant, inclusive community for Black neurologists in the U.S., fostering meaningful connections, advocating for diversity, and empowering excellence within our profession. We aim to bridge gaps, encourage collaboration, and support one another in advancing neurological health for all.
The Association of Black Neurologists (BNA) was founded to provide a space for Black neurologists to meet, network, and collaborate on shared challenges and achievements. We recognize the unique experiences of Black Americans, whether as descendants of enslaved ancestors or as first- and second-generation Americans, and those who hail from other countries. Our mission is to embrace these diverse backgrounds and foster a robust community that represents all dimensions of the Black neurological experience.
We support and uplift the presence of Black neurologists in various subspecialties, including Stroke, Epilepsy, Movement Disorders, Neuromuscular, Neuroimmunology, and more.
We allow members to self-identify their neurological subspecialty. This way, our members can find peers within their specific field, promoting networking and collaboration that fosters professional growth and innovation.
We recognize the need to respect and honor the experiences and backgrounds that make our community unique, including differences in heritage, generation, and international origin.
We advocate for the removal of barriers Black neurologists face in entering, advancing, and thriving within our field, and we seek to improve representation across all levels of neurological medicine.
We believe that building a community centered on our unique perspectives can foster greater inclusivity within neurology, advance research that impacts our communities, and enhance the quality of care for all. If you are a Black neurologist in the U.S., this association is here to support your growth, celebrate your achievements, and advocate for your success.
